Why You Should Consider Buying Fresh Soups At Target

If 100 random Americans were asked where they typically buy their groceries, Target might not be the most popular answer. FoodIndustry.com ranked Target Corporation as the number 10 top grocer in the United States. The chain didn't even start selling groceries until 1995, when the first supercenter opened, as Nasdaq explains.

Even if Target isn't and never will be your primary grocer, there are certain food items you may want to consider buying there over the competition. Case in point? Fresh soups — after all, it is soup season. It's not something people typically associate with Target groceries, but you can find it in the deli section of all Target Supercenters.

So why should you consider buying fresh soups at Target? If you don't currently buy soup from anywhere, you probably won't get too excited about the option to buy some from the "Expect More. Pay Less" supercenter. But, if you're a soup fanatic who enjoys fresh soup from restaurants like Panera, you'll definitely want to consider Target for your next soup purchase.

Target's fresh soup prices beat the competition

Among Target's in-store and online assortment of deli fresh soups such as Good & Gather, you'll also find Panera brand soup options with the same names and ingredients as the ones you'll find at Panera restaurants. Target's online choices include broccoli cheddar and cream of chicken and wild rice.

Now let's compare the price of one of those Panera soups at Target to that of the chain's top competitor, Walmart. According to Target's website, you can purchase a 16-ounce container of Panera Broccoli Cheddar Soup for about $4.99, plus tax. How much can you expect to pay for the same soup at Walmart, the retail giant known for its low prices? About 50 cents more. Target also offers a 32-ounce container online while Walmart's website does not.

These prices may vary slightly from location to location, even if you buy online, but Consumer Analyst Julie Ramhold told GoBankingRates that you'll still pay less at Target than at many competing grocery stores.
