Which meal kit service is the best choice for your lifestyle?

Cooking dinner has never been easier thanks to the meal-kit evolution. Forget lines at the grocery store — or even finding the time to do so — get everything delivered for a quick, healthier-than-not, fully cooked meal at home.

Terra’s Kitchen
Terra's Kitchen is a meal-kit delivering fresh, seasonal ingredients from what they describe as a “farm-to-front door” process. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare a fully cooked meal and thanks to its step-by-step recipes cards (complete with pictures!) it’s not too stressful of an endeavor. Terra’s Kitchen has a seasonally rotating menu and delivers pre-portioned ingredients and proteins in its innovative vessel.

This vessel is similar to a mini-refrigerator, complete with little pull out drawers filled with your items. All you have to do is place the empty container outside the next day to be picked up. Because the vessel is climate controlled and the pre-washed ingredients are sealed tight, they don’t spoil easily.

I tried out the Big Island Steak Bowl recipe with spiced skirt steak, caramelized pineapple, rice, and scallions — quick, easy to follow directions made cooking this impressive dinner a painless process. Also featured are vegetarian, paleo, and gluten-free recipes for those with dietary restrictions.

BistroMD
BistroMD takes away the thinking when it comes to eating and dieting. This meal system is based off a professional dietician’s approach to diet and is customizable based on your desired weight-loss. They even offer dietician support and “weekly wellness” updates form the M.D., dietician, trainer, and foodie to ensure your progress.

That said, these meals are flash frozen, and though done so at the peak of freshness, don’t taste quite as good as a home cooked meal. Despite that, the positives outweigh this fact. Benefits of BistroMD include having your whole day of food planned out each day — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — and having access to experts who can walk with you step-by-step through your weight-loss program. There is a science behind its balanced meals so you don’t have to second guess whether you’re eating the right food.

Green Chef
Green Chef is the first and only USDA-certified organic meal kit delivery company. They offer all the dietary options: Paleo, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, omnivore, and carnivore options. Similar to Terra’s Kitchen, meals only take about 30 minutes to prepare. You’re equipped with all the ingredients and step-by-step recipe cards.

Green Chef prides themselves on quality; it doesn’t have any pesticides, genetically modified organism, artificial anything, or growth hormones. I tried out it’s first vegan recipe, the Pesto Pasta Primavera with artichoke gremolata and I was surprised at how delicious it was! Not only was it easy to make (I ended up winging the cooking process and it still was great), but it also was healthy and vegan! I never eat vegan, but this dish is something I’d make again.
