"Do you take a multivitamin?" It’s a common question these days, asked everywhere from doctor’s offices to cocktail parties, as more and more people in our society are increasingly concerned with staying healthy and fit. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, there are 13 essential nutrients that the body requires on a daily basis, and many health professionals recommend the intake of a daily multivitamin because sometimes, one’s diet alone is not enough to fulfill that requirement. Whether it’s because of lifestyle, an allergy, or a food deficiency, many people turn to the use of a multivitamin to get the nutrients they need, often overlooking potential vitamin sources in their diets.
We can’t argue that the average person’s diet may very well lack the daily recommended amount of nutrients, necessitating the use of a multivitamin pill, but we were intrigued to find out what we could be eating on a daily basis in order to stay healthy. With the help of our nutritionist contributorJanelle Martel, we did some research into what foods we should make part of our daily diet.
