Tree-Climbing Drinking Game Sweeps New Zealand

New Zealand laughs at your puny Game of Thrones drinking game. Students there have developed a drinking game called "possum," and the rules are simple:

1. Climb a tree.

2. Drink until you fall out of it.

Officials, however, are concerned the game might injure the trees.

"Damage could be caused to trees, some of which are classed as heritage trees and are more than 100 years old," said Alan Matchett, team leader of the Dunedin city gardens and cemeteries department, according to The Guardian.

Other concerns include "food scraps, broken bottles and vomit left behind, the potential for someone to get injured falling from a tree, and the effect on other users of the gardens." It is true that few things ruin a picnic faster than being crushed by a drunken teenager falling out of a tree.

According to Gawker, the game is taking the world by storm, as players from Auckland, Hamilton, and Christchurch have also come forward to boast of having played the game, and at least one American commenter has expressed the desire to see it catch on stateside.

Possums, meanwhile, are offended that "playing possum" now means falling drunkenly from a tree.
