“Booya”

To the rest of the country, “booya” (or “booyah”) is usually what you yell when you show someone up. To upper Midwesterners, it’s a stew containing corn, tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, lima beans, a variety of meats, oxtail, and/or basically anything else the chef prefers, and is prepared in a 30-100 gallon vat. Booya is highly regarded in Minnesota, particularly in St. Paul, where the World Championship Booya Cookoff has taken place every fall for the last 33 years.
