With just two ingredients, Betty Crocker cake mix and a can of soda, you can make this simple low-calorie cake. Root beer and chocolate cake mix are used, but you can try different variations by mixing up the cake mix and soda flavors.

Ingredients

  • box Betty Crocker Super Moist chocolate cake mix
  • can diet root beer

Directions

Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.

In a large bowl, mix the dry cake mix with the root beer soda. Beat with a mixer on low speed for two minutes.

Scrap down the bowl, and divide the batter between the two cake pans. Bake for 24 to 29 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center of the cake.

Soda Shopping Tip

You can make healthy sodas at home by adding fresh fruit to seltzer water. If you want the classic flavors, however, you can also use flavor packets or frozen lemonade mixed with seltzer. Get creative!

Soda Cooking Tip

Making homemade sodas is a great project to embark on with kids. Use plsatic pitchers and wooden spoons to prevent breakage.
