Regardless of whether or not you cook your stuffing inside the turkey, no Thanksgiving dinner is complete without a side of stuffing. Most turkey stuffing consists of some type of bread (cubed cornbread or croutons, for example), aromatic vegetables like onion, carrot, and celery, and a variety of herbs, seasonings, and spices.
Every stuffing recipe is slightly different, though. Some use giblets and others don’t. Some add fruit like apples or cranberries, and some add nuts. And, some stuffing recipes even replace the bread with another starch, like rice. If you’re looking for a good stuffing recipe with a little twist, try this pork stuffing recipe. It uses bagged stuffing mix and chicken broth to create a quick and flavorful stuffing base and then enhances the stuffing with onion, apple, and pork sausage.
This stuffing recipe also calls for walnuts, but if you don’t have any on hand (or prefer a different nut instead) feel free to substitute; hazelnuts, almonds, or pecans would be delicious as well.
