US Postal Service Honors Legendary Chefs With Stamp Series

On September 26, the United States Postal Service will honor five culinary leaders who have "revolutionized our understanding of food" with a series of Forever stamps.

Celebrated food writer and champion of American cuisine James Beard will be honored, along with (according to Linn's Stamp News) author of Mastering the Art of French Cooking and inimitable television personality Julia Child; Southern cuisine pioneer Edna Lewis, northern Chinese cuisine chef Joyce Chen, and Peruvian chef Felipe Rojas-Lombardi.

According to the USPS:

"Seeing cooking as a source of delight, they invited us to feast on regional and international flavors and were early but ardent champions of trends that many foodies now take for granted. As they shared their know-how, they encouraged us to undertake our own culinary adventures."

Each digital illustration is meant to resemble an oil painting while "the selvedge design is intended to represent a white china plate resting on a fine linen tablecloth."
