Chipotle is Now Virtually GMO-Free

Chipotle has said since the beginning of the year that they have been transitioning to a completely GMO-free company using only natural ingredients. Now that promise has (almost) become a reality

Chipotle
You can relax! Your Chipotle burritos no longer have GMO's.

Chipotle has announced that amid their unwelcome price-hike, the company will now only use GMO-free ingredients. They would be the first fast food or fast causal restaurant to do so, according to Food Business News.

“To date we have eliminated virtually all of the GMO ingredients in our food,” Steve Ells, chairman and co-chief executive officer told Food Business News. “Our corn and flour tortillas are the only foods we currently serve that are made using ingredients that contain or could contain trace amounts of GMOs, and now we are testing new non-GMO recipes for these tortillas and we hope to be able to roll them out by the end of the year.”

Since the company has started replacing ingredients like soy oil with non-bioengineered sunflower and rice bran oils last year (along with the rising prices of avocado), prices have slightly increased by five percent. Chipotle did not respond to our requests for comment.

Unless they are using organic meat & dairy products or dutifully checking the farmers arnt feeding GMO, its still GMO….

if you think glyphosate is "the safest herbicide" then you either: 1. work for Monsanto. or 2. You're dumb as fuck. Im gonna assume you're the latter one.

it is better than other fast food restaurants....i won't eat corn and i don't eat modern wheat ...so the salad bowls suits me well

Glyphosate is FAR from safe! It is connected to numerous health problems and age is not a factor. I guess there's always gonna be someone that tells you poison is safe, lol... soooo ridiculous!

Congrats Chipotle's on doing the right thing, for our health, for our children and for our planet. Every little bit counts... :)

Chipotle should be applauded.
Not only are they working to eliminate questionable ingredients from their products...they also tell you what's what on their website, so that we, as consumers, can make informed choices.
Who else does that? Answer: No one.

The law of uninformed commenters strikes again!
Glyphosate is RoundUp, & made by Monsanto. The one & same Monsanto that makes the GMO's that Chipotle are trying to eliminate.
Hardly "the safest herbicide" by any stretch, as the GMO crops are engineered to be RoundUp-resistant. When one eats the GMO produce, is is contaminated with the RoundUp. Look up "Glyphosate toxicity".
And for anyone who might think that Monsanto, GMO food, or RoundUp is good for us, consider this: What IS RoundUp?
A weed killer...a defoliant. Sound familiar? Pretty much a watered-down version of Agent Orange. Yes...THAT Agent Orange from the Vietnam War, which was made by...you guessed it. Monsanto (among others). Monsanto also made the DDT insecticide that caused much controversy in the 1970's.
So it's safe to say that Monsanto has anything but our best interests in mind...

What they're doing is right, and I hope they make way for others to do the same. There is a bit of a health revolution happening in America and people are becoming more conscious of what they eat and how their food is sourced. Congratulations Chiptole!

Glyphosate is not a safe herbicide. Do your own research. How wonderful this is for people who choose to avoid GMOs to now have just one single option among the thousands upon thousands of other restaurants who only offer foods with both unlabeled GMOs AND agrichemicals in them. Thank you, Chipotle. This is definitely the right direction. Yum yum!

The law of unintended consequences strikes again!
Now, Chipotle customers are exposed to even more pesticides in their foods and have to pay more for the privilege. Chipotle has replaced foods grown with Glyphosate herbicide (the safest herbicide) with Atrazine and imazamox(far more harmful to the environment and people). Way to go people!

tdm-35-icon.png

And how long have you worked for Monsanto?
