“Lose the ‘diet’ mentality and stop trying the latest fad diet,” says Joy Dubost, registered dietitian. “If it sounds too good to be true or results in a quick amount of weight loss, it probably is not the best approach. Eating healthy is a life adventure, not a short endeavor.”

Establishing a healthy diet will allow you to lose weight over time and keep it off. You may be surprised to learn that it’s necessary to incorporate protein throughout the day. “Eat 20 to 30 grams of protein at every meal,” Dubost says. “Protein helps with muscle repair and growth, and provides a ‘filling’ effect.” Adding protein to your meals will stabilize your hunger and prevent you from choosing unhealthy snacks in between meals.

Although healthy snacking is one of the best weight-loss tips for women, it is important to portion-control all snacks to prevent excessive calorie consumption. Be aware of what you are eating and when you are eating. “Remove distractions while eating,” Dubost says. “Don't eat at your desk or in front of the TV. Tune into what is front of you: a delicious and nutritious meal.”

Many weight-loss tips for women revolve around sugar. Sugar is often hidden is foods and drinks, so it is essential to be aware of the ingredients of everything you consume. “Remove or reduce the amount of sugary beverages you consume,” Dubost says. “These can quickly add up the calories. Try alternative sweeteners that have zero calories.”

Healthy weight loss happens over time, but it’s so much more long-lasting than the latest diet trend. Consult a doctor or nutritionist before modifying your diet so that you will be successful on your weight-loss journey.
