America's Most Outrageous Ice Cream Sandwiches Slideshow
This pizzeria from celebrity chef Donatella Arpaia is known for serving up stellar desserts, courtesy of pastry chef Andrea Jarosh. Their ice cream sandwich begins with rainbow cookies (also known as tri-color cookies), which are available in most Italian bakeries. The consistency is similar to almond-flavored cake, with a thin spread of chocolate ganache between each layer. Homemade vanilla gelato is used as the filling.
This New York City food truck specializes in outrageous ice cream sandwiches. One of the best is the Breakfast Sammie, which includes two hotcake cookies (maple cookies with maple sugar bits) and brown butter candied bacon ice cream.
The famous Los Angeles-based chain of cupcake bakeries recently opened an ice cream shop, where they serve up gourmet ice cream sandwiches. In May, Carl’s. Jr. began testing the "ice cream brrrger" in select markets across the country. The new item on the dessert menu includes a scoop of chocolate ice cream topped with red, green, and yellow frostings, and sandwiched between two sugar cookies to resemble a burger.
This bakery, named after executive chef-owner, Dominique Ansel (photographed here), formerly of Daniel restaurant, is known for its outrageously beautiful pastries. This ice cream sandwich, deemed "the largest in the world" by the bakery, includes two 8-inch vanilla French macaron shells that are filled with four types of homemade ice cream — Tahitian vanilla with caramelized bananas, dark rum, caramel, and walnut brittle. The creation is meant to serve eight to 10 people.

This creation is only for true gluttons — it starts with a freshly made donut (the folks at Holey Cream in Manhattan fry them up all day, so they don’t get soggy) that’s split in half and stuffed with two scoops of ice cream, any flavor you desire. Holey Cream sells Sedutto's ice cream and frozen yogurt in a bevy of flavors, including red velvet cupcake and pretzel.
Unfortunately for foie gras fans, this renowned ice cream shop stopped serving its signature ice cream sandwich on July 1, following the statewide foie gras ban. However, the creation is so outstanding that it still deserves a spot on this list. Creamy, decadent foie gras ice cream is sandwiched between two homemade gingersnap cookies.
This casual eatery from renowned Northern California chef Cindy Pawlcyn serves up one heck of an ice cream sandwich. The base is homemade banana bread, layered with banana rum ice cream and garnished with almond toffee.

This food truck sets up shop in various locations throughout Orange County, serving up unique and innovative ice cream sandwiches. One of the most intriguing combinations, the Blu-Laventine, includes snickerdoodle cookies and blueberry lavender ice cream. If that’s not really your scene, perhaps the Cuba Libre with snickerdoodle cookies and guava and goat cheese ice cream is more your taste.

This ice cream shop is known for serving up totally unique flavors, such as goat cheese beet swirl, banana Reese’s Pieces, Stranahan’s whiskey brickle, and peanut butter chocolate stout swirl. Their giant ice cream sandwich includes a gargantuan serving of your ice cream of choice sandwiched between your cookie flavor of choice (choose between flavors such as lemon ginger, vegan almond cardamom, and chocolate butterscotch pretzel).
