The study examined 700 college students and measured their anxiety and probiotic consumption through a questionnaire. The results showed that the students who consumed fermented foods had fewer symptoms of anxiety than those who did not consume fermented foods.

In another study, published in the journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity, researchers found that probiotics can help boost mood and diminish symptoms of depression. The study enrolled 40 participants — half of whom received probiotic supplements, while the other half received a placebo — and found that those who consumed the probiotic supplement began to see improvements in their moods.
