The 28 Gooiest, Creamiest, Over-The-Top Macaroni And Cheese Recipes

Macaroni and cheese: It's beloved by all, and, funnily enough, an important part of America food history.

Way back in colonial times, Thomas Jefferson encountered macaroni during his European travels. He loved it so much that he imported both macaroni and Parmesan cheese for use at his Monticello estate in Virginia. Jefferson also reportedly served "a pie called macaroni" at a state dinner during his presidency.

Moving forward in history, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese was introduced in 1937 with the slogan "Make a meal for four in nine minutes." It was an immediate success in the U.S. and Canada due to the low cost and capacity to keep from spoiling — Kraft sold 9 million boxes in its first year alone. Kraft Mac and Cheese continues to thrive as a go-to favorite for kids, college students, and picky eaters everywhere, today selling about 1 million boxes each day.

Although the boxed variety is well-loved and eaten often, there is nothing quite like homemade.

This week we reached out to our Culinary Content network of food blogger asking them to share their best homemade macaroni and cheese recipes — the crazier the better — for a recipe roundup series we like to call SWAT (Sharing With A Theme).
