An Artisanal Peep Grows In Brooklyn

Easter Sunday is tomorrow, but Brooklyn-dwelling locavores need not go without a game of Chubby Bunny, for Fort Green-based Green Grape Annex is selling artisanal Peeps.

The sugar-covered marshmallow birds are handmade from scratch with organic sugar, which seems to go against the very spirit of the so-bad-they're-good seasonal mass-produced candy in disturbing colors, and Grub Street says they'll be selling for $1 apiece through the weekend.

At $1 a Peep, it probably isn't economical to see how many of these can fit into a person's mouth at one time, but it'd still be fun to pop one in the microwave and see how big it gets. And they'll definitely make a good conversation piece. "You bought artisanal Peeps? Are you crazy? Well, actually that's kind of neat."

Green Grape Annex is also working on a homemade version of the Cadbury Creme Egg, presumably organic, cage-free, and vegetarian-raised.
