There are many different ways to prepare a grilled cheese sandwich.

A classic grilled cheese sandwich of cheddar cheese melted between two slices of buttered white bread is hard to beat, but there are a few variations and new ingredients that can take a traditional melt to new levels. Using different breads like brioche or whole-wheat and mixing up the cheeses with Gruyère or gorgonzola are just a few delicious new takes on grilled cheese sandwiches.

There are many ways to prepare a grilled cheese sandwich and we decided it would be the ideal theme for this week’s SWAT (Sharing With A Theme). We put the Culinary Content Network and our staff to the test to come up with grilled cheese recipes and here are some of the highlights:

  • Haley Willard, the Associate Editor at The Daily Meal, shared her recipe for Parmesan-crusted pesto Gruyère grilled cheese sandwich. Willard says “Pesto makes everything better” and we agree.
  • Kayla De’Leon of Chick Who Cooks made a breakfast grilled cheese sandwich complete with bacon and a runny egg with Muenster cheese. De’Leon is a member of the Culinary Content Network.
  • The winner this week is Lori Yates of Foxes Love Lemons. Yates shared with us her recipe for a Brie, red onion, and mozzarella grilled cheese sandwich. Yates is a member of the Culinary Content Network.

All of the recipes featured can be made at home for about $20 or less, excluding the cost of small amounts of basic ingredients such as butter, oil, flour, sugar, salt, pepper, and other dried herbs and spices.
