Word Of Mouth: SwirlSmellSlurp's Best Of Los Angeles

SwirlSmellSlurp is a blog by a couple in Los Angeles, whose life just happens to include a lot of wine. They are also designers. He is an architect and web designer, she a graphic designer and artist. Need a website, house, wine cellar, wine label, or anything else designed? You know who to reach out to. They also happen to know quite a bit about food. Check out their picks.

Brunch: We said: Canelé

Fancy: He said Bazaar; She said Osteria Mozza (is it fancy?)

Bar Scene/Drinks: He said his den.

Best Value: We said RoRo's Chicken

Business Lunch: He said Wurstküche (Downtown, architects aplenty)

Burger: He said McCall's Meat & Fish Company (Burger blend, and grill it yourself); She said The Hungry Cat (first burger I ever had, shared with Nancy Silverton, who talked me into it.)

Pizza: We said Pizzeria Mozza (He said: the one with Ipswich clams).

Sandwich: He said PB&J at home. (And maybe a pulled pork sandwich with the sweetest/messiest BBQ sauce from Tony's Deli on Glenoaks in Burbank). She said I'm not a big sandwich person, but I love Locali on Franklin. Awesome vegan/veggie/meat options...all made with love. The whole shop is great.

Food Truck: We said Don't buy into it. We like the hot dog vendor that shows up sometimes outside of 4100 Club on Sunset. Bacon wrapped hot dogs, wow.

Hidden Gem: We said Best Fish Taco in Ensenada on Hillhurst. Effing awesome. Two things on the menu and we order them both x 4.

Mexican/Latin-American: He said This little place on Spring near The Gorbals that Ilan Hall always took me too when I was designing his space.

Spanish/Tapas: He said:Pintxo's in the Basque Country, never found anything close here.

Wine List: We said Lou on Vine—terrifically obscure and yet focused. Lou is an amazing guy that has never steered us wrong.

Barbecue: He said Huston's Texas Pit Bar-B-Cue (two decades of post-Burgundy Room late night eating). The Texan in me misses BBQ.
