Umami Burger Scouting New York Locations, Being Super Non-Committal

The Los Angeles burger chain of umami ketchup glory is looking at a Greenwich Village spot

Umami Burger's brief appearance at the Great GoogaMooga festival last summer definitely left a lot of mouths unfed (their stand sold out of burgers before 3 p.m. the first day), so naturally any news about Umami Burger New York's opening is exciting.

Grub Street noticed that a certain "Village Eats 10011, LLC" showed up on Community Board No. 2's agenda for tonight's meeting, and the restaurant behind Village Eats seems to be Umami Burger.

Since the agenda is an application for a liquor license at 432 Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village, it would seem like the location is pretty set for the Los Angeles transplant. Restaurant representatives, however, are being shady and non-committal. The location is "not confirmed at all," one email to us said. The location is "one of many possibilities," but the company doesn't have any signed leases in New York as of yet. Let's just hope they're still slated for a late 2012 opening.
