Jeff Mitchum Galleries in the District at MGM Grand Las Vegas (as well as Bellagio Las Vegas) features an eclectic collection of fine art photography of nature and dramatic landscapes from around the world by award-winning photographer Jeff Mitchum. Known as the Ansel Adams of color, his original pieces have been shown in the Smithsonian Institute and the Getty Museum as well as publications such as "National Geographic." Mitchum sold the gallery's entrance masterpiece, "Third Day," for $1.8 million, considered to be one of the most expensive photographs ever sold. Mitchum captures his images through the use of natural light, film and digital photography.

Las Vegas Artists Guild is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization bringing talented and emerging artists in the Las Vegas area to the public's attention. Its juried art show, "Shades of Summer," will be exhibited in the art gallery of the West Charleston Library showcasing winners including Best of Show K.D. Matheson, 1st place Sohyun Lee, 2nd place Thom Bumblauskas, 3rd place Denise Fisher and honorable mentions Harold Bradford, Grace Sanchez and Liezl Siojo. Art displayed includes two- and three-dimensional pieces.

Blackbird Studios is a gallery, art studio and cooperative exhibition space located in the Las Vegas Arts District. One new exhibit to be showcased in the main gallery in September will be "Words to Live By" featuring Kris Kraincock, Gina Alverson and Vivian Martin. The gallery will be decorated in Bohemian style with little tables and chairs and a beat-up couch set in a beatnik coffee shop. The exhibit will include photography, paintings and the spoken word celebrating freedom of expression.

Clay Arts Vegas offers original ceramics, sculptures and two-dimensional work by resident artists as well as traveling exhibits. Its juried exhibition in the Victor F. Keen Gallery, "Serve It Up," will feature plates, platters, bowls, casseroles and other functional tableware created as an artistic statement. Artists from around the country and Las Vegas as well as from Austria are participating in the juried exhibit.

Founded in 2002, the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Art, a 501(c)3 museum, moved to downtown Las Vegas in 2008. Encompassing 20,000 square feet of exhibit space including a main gallery, special exhibitions gallery and small works gallery, the museum showcases the work of local, national and international artists. Its newest exhibit will chronicle the life and experiences of Anne Frank and the Jewish Holocaust. This exhibition will feature over 150 images and a select array of canvas montages depicting an historical representation of the progression of the Holocaust and the culture of Judea. The inspiration of this show comes from the archives of the international Jewish community and the photographic montages created by Michael Knigin.

Debbie Hall is practically a Las Vegas native (34 years and counting) and loves experiencing everything in Southern Nevada from the Las Vegas Strip to the surrounding mountains and Lake Mead.
