Foursquare Tips

  • Tar & Roses, which also has a terrific, mostly Italian, wine list, may also mark the first time in our nation's history when cauliflower became more delicious than prime steak.
  • Jonathan Gold's tip: "If I had to pick the single most delicious thing in the restaurant, it would probably be the English peas, drizzled with oil, sprinkled with sea salt and roasted..."
  • Has some decent appetizer veggie options but lacks entrees for vegetarians. They were out of the only two they offer tonight
  • You're not doing it right if you don't end your meal with the Strawberry Ricotta Crostata. It's served with honeycomb ice cream and sprinkled with thyme and black pepper.
  • The gnocchi is perfectly pillow soft!
  • Red Snapper for two is the BOMB.com. Do it!!!!!
  • Get the bone marrow if that's your sort of thing. Don't miss the oxtail dumplings! The chocolate tar bar with sweet rose creamery salted caramel ice cream is another highlight.
  • A boisterous gastropub in Santa Monica that focuses on farm-to-table vegetable dishes. Try the wood roasted peas with mint, charcuterie, and plates of rib-sticking braised lamb belly.
  • One of the best new restaurants in town....small plates - delicious...whole fish is a highlight Vu runs out early.
  • An extraordinary addition to west side dining. Order a few of the vegetable side dishes - all are creative, delicious preparations that will force you to stop and admire the gorgeous presentations!
  • Everything is good here! The cheese plate was fantastic, the whole fish was amazing!
  • Get the shellfish pot with curry...it's phenomenal.
  • The whole fish is pretty spectacular, as is the pig tails.
  • Hippest new gastro meets tapas experience
  • I LOVE the Lamb Belly, you will want to lick the plate!
  • Ricotta gnocchi for small plates. Reco burrata and tomato bruschetta too! Love the wood burning aspect!
  • "The bone marrowserved with a red onion marmalade and grilled sourdoughis richer than butter. Paired with a glass of Zinfandel, it's perfection!"- Makani Gerardi
  • Very overhyped tapas. Disappointed. Go to "ink" for the best tapas!
  • Any discussion of Tar & Roses must begin, as your dinner probably will, with what is probably its simplest appetizer, a concoction of popcorn tossed with brown sugar, lardons and chile.
  • Been a while since you've encountered popcorn with bacon, roasted marrowbones with sourdough or chicken oysters on a stick? You'll find them here.
