Summer Cooking & Entertaining Tips From 'Cooking Planit'

Earlier this summer, we wrote about the revolution taking place in kitchens everywhere — initiated by moms around the country who are planning dinner more efficiently and getting organized when it comes to meal preparation. In our investigations we discovered that 67 percent of moms are determined to be more organized in their weekly meal planning —with help from websites like Pinterest or, ahem, The Daily Meal. Now, when you're on the go and need some food help, there's an app for that: the new Cooking Planit app.

Cooking Planit is a free website and mobile app (the premium app is priced at $2.99 for the iPhone and $4.99 for the iPad) that provides home cooks with step-by-step instructions to create full meals, organizing the process for a more efficient cooking experience. Users can filter by main ingredient, occasion, dietary restriction, and type of dish, with each recipe showing a full list of ingredients and necessary cooking utensils.

Naturally, as the summer heats up and hosts all over are running around planning reunions, summer parties, barbecues, and going-away parties, an app like this is not only helpful, but almost essential. In order to take the guess work out of grocery shopping, meal preparation, and cooking (which overwhelms many could-be hosts), Emily Wilson, executive culinary director of Cooking Planit, is sharing six ingenious summer entertaining tips that will make hosting a party a slice of cake. From cooking for guests with restrictive diets, to planning ahead—Emily Wilson covers it all, making you a gracious and thoughtful host your guests will surely praise this summer and for many summers to come.
