This recipe is perhaps simplest and easiest to do yourself, or delegate. There are many types of melon ballers that give different shapes, so experiment in the kitchen and drench in a curtain of summer rum for adult fun!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light rum
  • 1/3 cup lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon grated lime peel
  • 1/4 small, ripe watermelon

DIRECTIONS

In a small pot, bring the water to a boil over high heat. Stir in sugar, reduce the heat, and simmer for 3 minutes. Add the rum and simmer for another 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool somewhat before adding the lime juice and the grated lime peel. Cut the melon flesh into balls with a melon baller. In a bowl, pour the syrup over the fruit, mix gently, cover, and chill in the refrigerator for several hours before serving.
