The American medal count at the London 2012 Olympics is 66 (as of Tuesday afternoon) and counting, we could certainly use a drink to toast the American Olympic team. Made at Bar Rouge in Washington D.C., bar manager Rico Wisner chose hibiscus grenadine, white peach puree and Bluecoat Gin to pay homage to the colors of the American flag, while still creating a refreshing summertime drink. (Fun fact: Bluecoat Gin is also made in Philly, as an American take on the traditional “redcoat” London dry gin.) We recommend lots of loud "USA!" cheers to go with this spirited drink.
INGREDIENTS
For the drink:
- 1 1/2 ounces Bluecoat Gin
- 1/2 ounce white peach puree
- 1 ounce fresh brewed black tea
- 3/4 ounce hibiscus grenadine
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice
For the hibiscus grenadine:
- 1 tablespoon dried hibiscus flowers (aka sorrel, jamaica, flor de jamiaca)
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup sugar
