Foursquare Tips

  • best ethiopian food in dc, hands down. you won't be disappointed.
  • Do brunch here when they host a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. A unique experience, indeed.
  • It might not seem like all that much from the outside, but Dukem is authentic Ethiopian in the heart of a city that takes its Ethiopian food very seriously. [Eater 38 Member]
  • If it's your first time with Ethiopian, go for a combination platter. Stay away from the kitfo (raw beef)... unless you know you can handle it.
  • The vegetarian platter here is amazing. Some of the best Ethiopian food in DC.
  • Gluten free peeps- This restaurant imports injera from Ethiopia to sell and it is GF. For 7$ they will sell you a pack and use it in your meal (4-enough for the table!) it's better than the standard.
  • Beef is good for some, but I crave flavorful vegetarian combos -- and they MASTER it here. Lunch is great time to visit!
  • Try the Goden Tibs with the greens and spicy lentils. It's such an outstanding meal.
  • Bar dominated restaurant, come here any of day of the week, at night, you wil be surrounded by people, live music, beer selection, culture, and atmosphere feeling like you just landed in east africa
  • Make reservations or be prepared to wait.
  • The vegetarian here is awesome. Most Ethiopians don't eat meat or dairy for 55 days during lent so the veggies and bread are all vegan friendly. Go big and ask for the 16 item fasting special.
  • Try the tea.
  • Very great atmosphere. I thought all the food was too spicy though. When I was able to get past that, it tasted great and came with good service.
  • Free presents for the kiddies under the Christmas tree. Definitely makes the visit even better.
  • Try the Dukem Tibs - Beef rib tips sauted in traditional Ethiopian spices, onions, and hot peppers
  • so amazing! a fun experience. delicious food & very friendly service.
  • Don't bother trying to use the $10 check-in coupon, this place won't honor it :P. Also has pretty shoddy service. I know it's top-rated in DC, but there are other good places in DC with better service
  • The veggie delux platter is easily enough for 3 people. Super good food!
  • On Wednesdays evenings they have live traditional music and dancing!
  • Greatest ethiopian restaurant in dc!
