  • large onion, halved and thinly sliced crosswise (4 cups)

  •   Eight 1/2-inch-thick slices of whole-grain bread
  •   Dijon mustard
  • 8 Ounces  imported Gruyère cheese, thinly sliced
  • half-sour pickles, thinly sliced lengthwise
