Foursquare Tips

  • This is the 7th oldest museum in the US, and the oldest in the Pacific Northwest. Free every 4th Friday of every month, 5-8 pm.
  • Did you know? This is the oldest museum in the Pacific Northwest and the seventh oldest in the United States. The collection includes Native American, Asian, European and American art.
  • Get a pass, then come as often as you like.
  • Survey the domain
  • Smoke pot
  • If you're thinking of paying $5 for the Francis Bacon exhibit and, like me, are curious but not immensely passionate about Bacon then don't. It's a single triptych in a busy corridor. Total waste.
  • Don't miss the amazing Asia collection!
  • Check out Elliott Erwitt's photography while you're here! He captures wonderful light-hearted moments in a unique way. My favorite is "Las Vegas Nevada 1954"
  • Bring walking shoes. You'll thank me when you do.
  • the collection is varied and interesting but this is one of the only museums i have been to where practically none of the art has a description beyond name, year and artist. hope you're an expert!
  • Don't bring a stroller. The museum is on various floors and the elevator takes 5-10 minutes. We left after a few floors.
  • The fourth Friday of the month is free from 5-8pm.
  • Carrie Mae Weems photography exhibit - do not miss it! Actually plan to visit many times
  • Very large museum. If you're a student you can sign up to come for an additional 6-8months for an extra two dollars. Check your Id in to use an iPod touch that narrates the current exhibit.
  • Always plan extra time and let yourself wander around. There are always a diverse selection of wonderful exhibits that deserve your time. Go slow and enjoy!
  • Rothko's first solo exhibition was here in 1933
  • Please walk over here. Devil in a blue dress!
  • @ a big members only museum party enjoying wine , good music , and my SPECIAL someone :^)
  • Check out floor 4 of the main building. People often don't go up.
  • Ok ok, so this place isn't fabulous. Don't be a snob about it though, there's still some really good art here to enjoy.
