  • I donated one of my eight male lions to this zoo. A word of caution: He understands Spanish, French and Catalan. So dont say anything derogatory about him.
  • This zoo was originally named the "Maytag Zoo" after Robert Maytag, who formed the Arizona Zoological Society. Maytag died a few months before its opening in November 1962.
  • Pet the stingrays! It only costs three dollars and it's worth it.
  • The Phoenix Zoo, which is considered one of the nation's top 10 zoos, played a large part in saving the Arabian oryx from extinction.
  • A must see! Has squirrel monkeys from central and south America. Only exhibit of its kind in north america.
  • So much fun! Love this place!

  • March is the best month to visit the zoo.
  • Be careful with food, the birds will snatch
  • Looking for a change of pace? Head to the zoo to feed the giraffes, pet a stingray and ride a camel.
  • Strollers! OMG! And please watch your children. I do not find them cute or amusing and I paid to be here, too. #assholeparents
  • Lions are the largest African carnivores; basically, don't stick your hands through the fence!
  • Stingray Bay is the BEST! Definitely a must!!
  • Come check out the awesome giraffes. You can even feed them. 10-11 am and 1-2 pm

  • Definitely get a membership! You don't have to worry about seeing everything during busy days and the sprayground is a huge success with the kids during the summer!
  • Memberships here are so worth it! Komodo dragon exhibit is very cool!
  • Feed the giraffes and don't be afraid to ask questions! The summer is a slow time at the zoo because...well...it's hot. But the giraffes don't mind it and the knowledgeable guides are still there!
  • most of the animals are active early in the morning - a great reason to be there when the zoo opens
  • The Zoo is planning on building a new exhibit for the tigers. The upcoming event, Walk in the Wild is a fundraiser for the project. You can also donate at the front gate
