Using just a few ingredients, this recipe is a quick and easy way to whip out elegant chocolate scones infused with the fruity essence of oranges.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/8 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup flour, plus extra for rolling out the dough
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange flower water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 beaten egg
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips
  • 3 egg yolks
  • Dash of milk
  • Pinch of sugar

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Put the butter, sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Rub the ingredients together until combined. Add in the orange zest, egg, milk, and orange flower water. Knead into a dough. Add the chocolate chipsto the dough.

Dust some flour on a clean surface and roll the dough until it is ¾ of an inch high. Cut the scone into a desired shape, so that it is about 2 inches in diameter, and place on a baking sheet. You should get about 10 scones.

Combine the egg yolks, milk, and sugar, and brush the surface of each scone with the egg wash. Rest the scones for about 15 minutes, and then bake for 12-15 minutes until cooked through.
