Enraged Chef Throws Pan Of Scalding Water At Employee; Refused To Let Him Go To The Hospital

One enraged boss chef's tantrum makes Hell's Kitchen look like a dream. Chef Djamel Benrejdal of the Eat Mediterranean pizza and kebab shop in Scarborough, York, U.K., faces jail time for assault after throwing a pan of boiling water at one of his sous chefs. The violent chef was found guilty of causing "severe bodily harm" to chef Chouaib Boussera during what was allegedly an incident about an improperly boiled egg in March 2016.

According to The Sun (U.K.), Djamel Benrejdal, 49, flew into a rage after finding a cracked egg inside a pan of boiling water. This small incident set him off and he picked up the pan and threw it at the offending chef. While chef Chouaib Boussera "screamed in agony," his boss put on his chef's coat and walked out of the kitchen in a huff. Benrejdal then refused to let him go to the hospital, instead creating a homemade salve out of yogurt, onions, and honey, and told him to continue working.

The following day, he finally took his employee to the hospital and allegedly told staff that the injuries were due to a "kitchen accident." After he was discharged from the hospital, Boussera made a formal police complaint. After trying and failing to hide evidence, the tempestuous chef was arrested and charged with causing "grievous bodily harm with intent and an alternative charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm."

During the court proceedings, Bouserra revealed that his boss had bullied him since he was hired in December 2015. Benrejdal was found guilty but the judge adjourned his sentence until June 9.
