The 12th annual Vendy Awards is almost upon us and the four finalists for the top awards — the Vendy Cup and the People’s Choice Award — have been revealed.
They are Cachapas on Wheels, Tacos el Rancho, Traditional Chinese Cuisine, and Gladis’ Empanadas, according to a release. They will be competing for the Vendy Cup and the title of the city’s best food vendor.
A panel of seven culinary experts will determine the winner. The panel will consist of: chef Chloe Coscarelli of by CHLOE; New York Times Food staff reporter Julia Moskin; Helen Hollyman, editor in chief of Munchies; Chitra Agrawal of Brooklyn Delh; The Meatball Shop’s Daniel Holzman; Nicole A. Taylor, host of food culture podcast Hot Grease; and chef Adam Sobel of Cinnamon Snail.
The competition will take place at Governor’s Island on Sept. 17. Tickets can be purchased here.
This annual event benefits the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center, “a membership-based organization that provides advocacy and legal services for nearly 2,000 vendor members.”
