Pizzeria Owner Delivers Personal Pie To Pope Francis

The Pope may be God's representative here on Earth, but if there's one thing he can't do, it's head to the local pizzeria and scarf down a pie in peace. Pope Francis recently revealed in an interview that he feels his Pontificate will be brief, and said, "the only thing I would like is to go out one day, without being recognized, and go to a pizzeria for a pizza."

Well, one local pizzeria heard his prayers. Pizzeria Don Ernesto in Naples, Italy, sprang into action after hearing about the pope's pizza-less plight, creating the pope a special white and yellow pie made with buffalo mozzarella and yellow cherry tomatoes. The pie had "Il Papa" emblazoned in dough across the top.Pizzeria co-owner Enzo Cacialli delivered his creation to Pope Francis as the Popemobile procession was driving by. The pizzeria's owners then uploaded a YouTube video of the Pope accepting the personal pie. Onlookers cheered and clapped for the exchange.

"I think he was just joking. He said, 'Thank you.' How can I say in English... 'I'll have it later,'" pizzeria co-owner Roberto Discardi told ABC News
