Chicago Police Officer Treats Dumpster-Diving Homeless Man To Meal At Chipotle

A Chicago police officer is being lauded for going above and beyond the call of duty for a local homeless man.Sergeant B. Hagarty was eating lunch at Chipotle when he noticed through the window a homeless man scrounging up a meal from scraps in a dumpster out front. He tapped on the glass to get the man's attention and called him inside to buy him lunch.

The selfless moment would have gone unnoticed were it not for another Chipotle customer who caught the burrito exchange on camera. The customer wrote a Facebook post about it, which has since gone viral.

"They stood in line together and at the end the cop paid for the man's meal," Rachel Mitchell's post read. "A simple hand shake was exchanged between them and they parted ways like it was no big deal. Touched my heart so much... it reminds me there's so much more good out there than anyone ever wants to give credit. If everyone did something simple like this every day the world would be a better place."

The Chicago Police Department also posted the story, saying, "Sergeant Hagarty we thank you for leading the Chicago Police Department by example."
