2016 James Beard Awards Winners For Book, Broadcast, And Journalism Announced

The James Beard Foundation announced this year's winners for books, broadcast, and journalism. Book awards recognize works published in English in 2015. Broadcast awards are given to web and radio programs that aired in 2015. Journalism awards go to articles published in 2015, reports Tasting Table.

The awards ceremony took place at Chelsea Piers in NYC on Tuesday night, and had a TV Dinners theme. The winners accepted their awards to the tune of beloved theme songs.

Lucky Peach was awarded Best Food Blog and 2016 Publication of the Year. Martha Mendoza, Margie Mason, and Robin McDowell were recognized for their work on "Seafood from Slaves: An AP Investigation Helps Free Slaves in the 21st Century," which also won the trio a Pulitzer Prize.

Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook took home the final award of the night, Book of the Year, for Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking. The announcement came after Lucky Peach was awarded Publication of the Year. Solomonov recounts, "We thought [the night] was over. We were in the cab and got a text. It was a pretty epic moment." The book also received this year's international award. Deborah Madison was inducted into the Cookbook Hall of Fame.
