Pennsylvania-Based Distillery Creates A Spirit Made From Beets

Lansdale, Pennsylvania-based distillery, Boardroom Spirits, has added a beet spirit to its lineup. Beet Spirit joins the company's flagship vodka, fresh cranberry-flavored vodka, and boardroom gin, all developed by Boardroom Spirits' "mad scientist-of-a-master distiller," Attila Kovács, Philly Beer Scene detailed.

The beet spirit made its debut earlier this month at Martha's Place, a restaurant in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, which hosts weekly industry nights to highlight local products. Guests sampled beet-themed cocktails that incorporated the spirit, such as the Beet Down, featuring beet spirit, dill root syrup, fresh lemon, and sea salt.

For the debut, Martha's also created cocktails using Boardroom Spirits' vodkas and served beet-themed bites including beet poke with coconut, lime, and chiles; and beet ice cream with local honey and sesame.

The Boardroom team described its new product as "earthy, fragrant and surprisingly strong, Beet Spirit is distilled from 100% real beets. Though technically defined as a 'spirit,' it most closely resembles a brandy. Brandies distilled from vegetables are so rare in U.S. distilling that government classifications haven't caught up yet."
