New American Eagle Jeans Are Made With Recycled Coffee Grounds

Teen-oriented clothing brand American Eagle has released a new line of clothing that includes denim with a boost of coffee: jeans that include 2.25 grams of recycled coffee grounds. Supporters for the new line have included some famous faces, like actresses Hilary Duff and Vanessa Hudgens.

According to the company, the pants, Denim X Café for women and Denim Flex Café for men, offer antibacterial properties that keep them clean for longer than your average pair of jeans.

That doesn't mean, however, that customers get to skip washing them. "I find it very hard to imagine that it would be enough [antibacterial properties] to surpass pathogenic bacteria, those that cause disease," microbiologist Max Gottesman told the New York Daily News.

And for the record, the jeans will not add any more caffeine to your system.  "This is just a fiber, your skin is not absorbing any caffeine," textile expert Deborah Young told the Daily News. "For marketing, it's fabulous. It's kind of sexy to wear coffee. People are interested."
