Capri Sun Reformulates To Just 5 Ingredients

Two months after announcing the removal of high-fructose corn syrup from the Capri Sun formula, Kraft Foods has announced an even bigger reformulation — to five ingredients.

The new Capri Sun has water, sugar, juice, citric acid, and natural flavor, and three fewer grams of sugar per pouch. In an effort to better align the brand with a healthy lifestyle, Capri Sun also launched a new advertising campaign earlier this year promoting active play.

The reformulation also comes with a slight package redesign — a clear-bottomed pouch — so you can see inside your drink, if that matters to you.

The shift isn't much of a surprise, given similar strides in the last year from food companies to clean up ingredient lists as consumers called for greater transparency. Unilever, for example, managed to cut down the formula considerably for I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.

The Hershey company, meanwhile, announced that it would replace high-fructose corn syrup with sugar in a number of its products, and Kool-Aid recently introduced a low-sugar option
