Ben & Jerry's Takes A Stand To Support Black Lives Matter
Ice cream company Ben & Jerry's just took a stand in support of a polarizing political debate. In a tweet with the Back Lives Matter logo printed in the ice cream company's font, Ben & Jerry's also linked to a blog post on its website on the subject.
"Black lives matter because they are children, brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers," the blog post read. "They matter because the injustices they face steal from all of us — white people and people of color alike. They steal our very humanity.
"Systemic and institutionalized racism are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time," the post continues. "We've come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats.
"We ask you to join us in not being complicit... To not just listen, but to truly understand those whose struggle for justice is real, and not yet complete."
This is not the first time Ben & Jerry's has taken a political stand. Last year, it released a global warming-themed ice cream called Swirled Peace, and, earlier this year, it released "Empower Mint," which raised awareness for voter rights. Ben and Jerry's also released a limited-edition Bernie Sanders flavor during primary season in support of "Vermont's Finest Senator."
