Liquid Sunshine Cocktail Recipe
Michael Harlan Turkell

This cocktail, from Tipsy Parson in New York City, was originally inspired by a shipment of fresh Louisiana citrus that the owners received as a gift from a friend who lives in New Orleans. Says owner Tasha Gibson, "When we opened up the crate, the amazing fragrance of Satsuma oranges almost made us forget the foot of snow outside — it was just the thing to perk us all up in the dead of winter!"

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces Satsuma orange juice, plus a wedge for the rim
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • 1 ½ ounces gin, preferably Brooklyn Gin
  • 1/3 ounce Averna Agrumi
  • Ice
  • 1 part Aleppo pepper, for garnish
  • 1 part salt, for garnish
  • 1 part ground dried citrus zest, for garnish

DIRECTIONS

In a cocktail shaker, combine all of the liquid ingredients together and shake with ice.

Rub the inside and outside rim of a low-ball glass with the orange wedge. In a shallow dish, mix equal parts of the pepper, salt, and zest, then coat the rim of the glass in the garnish mixture. Pour the cocktail into the prepared glass with ice.
