This haute Mexican eatery is harder to get into than Harvard, having built a rep around fancy tequilas and ceviche. Can't snag abooth? The no-frills, street-level taqueria can sate your wounded ego.

Try the Pescado a las Brasas taco, available at the sit-down caf and takeout taqueria. It's one of NYC's 26 best tacos!

At the basement of a corner Taio shop lies a seductive laid-back dungeon, where you can lounge and sip on some great margaritas. -Julie Kwon, Launch My Line

Like finding El Dorado beneath a taco shack. Head downstairs, take the scenic route through the kitchen to find amazing scene of tequila, huitlacoche quesadillas and total hotness.

Everyone knows to get the corn, but try the rice milk. Get it to go and walk around the hood.

Beautiful underground Mexican restaurant and tequila bar hidden underneath the kitchen area of a Mexican fast food-looking joint. One of my favorite restaurants in NYC! -Francine, The Real L Word

The tacos are good but I come for the door policy and attitude.

Excellent, greasy, late-night food. Get a quesadilla de huitlacoche. It sounds and looks dirty, but I promise its delicious. Scarf it down before you ask Google what the hell you just ate.

The fish tacos are worth the hype. Be sure to sit downstairs - perfect for a girls' night out.

Not always an exclusive downtown hot-spot. In 1984, the corner of Cleveland and Kenmare hosted one of New York's most spectacular cinematic showdowns.

Look around - all the people working behind the counter have two things in common - obesity and an attitude

The place has this air of exclusivity and mystery that New Yorkers never cease to crave. We also like to come to the quiet caf for lunch on a weekendthe tacos make surprisingly good hangover cures.

How to Make It in America happened here. One of the best places to throw a swank birthday dinner like Rachel's.
