Japanese food is a very popular cuisine, and there are many Japanese restaurants around the world selling different types of Japanese cuisine. Hokkaido cuisine is a type of Japanese food that comes from the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. The Japanese food that comes from Hokkaido is predominantly seafood; Hokkaido is famous for its fresh, high-quality seafood dishes due the cold waters surrounding the island.

Hokkaido’s most popular dishes and best types of seafood dishes involve uni, or sea urchin. Also among some of Hokkaido’s other most popular seafood features are squid, salmon, crab, scallops, octopus, and sea shrimp, just to name a few.

Beyond seafood, there are many other examples of popular Japanese food. Genghis Khan nabe is loved for its rustic flavors, and many of the Japanese restaurants that specialize in Hokkaido cuisine will offer Genghis Khan nabe. This dish is made using thinly sliced mutton and vegetables that are basted and roasted.

Another one of Hokkaido’s most popular dishes is the Ishikari-nabe, which is a very typical dish of Hokkaido. This popular Japanese dish is made from salmon chunks that are stewed in a miso paste broth with vegetables and tofu.
