FORT WORTH (CBS 11 NEWS) – Most businesses wait for Black Friday. But for the Swiss Pastry Shop in Fort Worth, the day before Thanksgiving could be called Black Pieday. The store is swamped with a push for pie and people on a cake quest.
Kristi Muller and her husband own the shop. And they’ll sell 1,000 cakes land 3,000 pies in just two days.
“Our bakery staff has been here all week,” Muller said. “They came in on Sunday and they came in on Monday and worked 8 to 10 hours on those days that we’re normally closed.”
People crowd the store from the time it opens. As fast as a worker can grab a pie from the sorted stacks filling the store’s dining room and hustle back to the customer another customer is waiting.
“This is the time of year that I’m a pastry widow,” Muller said. “I don’t really see a whole lot of him. We passed like ships in the night. He comes in at 3 o’clock in the morning and I stay home with our kids and then I’ll come in later in the afternoon.”
But the Mullers know what their family makes has made other families’ holidays for years.
“About 30 years or more,” said Jane Reyes who now brings her grandsons with to pick up their Turkey Day desserts. “Every Thanksgiving I just come in order some pies for Thanksgiving dinner.”
That’s the kind of thing that makes my day,” Muller said. “To see she was so excited! And I thought it’s just a pie! And, I know it’s not just a pie it’s part of their family tradition.”
