Heston Blumenthal Eyeing New York?

It started with a tweet.

Last week, Food and Travel editor Guy Woodward tweeted out: "Rumour is that Heston Blumenthal will open a restaurant in one of Mandarin Oriental's US hotels — maybe next year. My money's on New York." The news took the Twitterverse by storm, and news spread as if an official announcement had already been made.

Blumenthal, whose restaurants include England's famous The Fat Duck, has three Michelin stars under his belt and is best known for meticulously updating British classics and elevating them to fine dining. It was particularly interesting news because he already runs a restaurant in London's Mandarin Oriental (Dinner by Heston Blumenthal), and earlier this year an article in The Telegraph mentioned that he was in talks with the Mandarin Oriental New York about opening a restaurant there.

Even if a restaurant is in the works, it doesn't appear as if confirmation is coming anything soon. "We have always said that we would love to open another Dinner but where and when are not even in conversation yet," a spokeswoman told Caterer and Hotelkeeper. "I can confirm that there is nothing planned and that you will see nothing in the next 12 to 18 months at least."

For those dying to try Blumenthal's creations but who aren't willing or able to travel thousands of miles for them, it looks like you might just have to wait a little longer.
