Gourmet Bakery Opens In Kansas City

Irina Yefremov, custom cake maker, has reopened a gourmet bakery in Kansas City, the Kansas City Star reports. The bakery is called Irina's Gourmet Bakery and is located in the Stoll Park Retail and Professional Center in Overland Park.

The shop sells baked goods like key lime tarts, chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate mousse, cupcakes, cherry currant scones, blueberry raspberry muffins, and baked breads like challah and eight grain.

But the most famous of her baked goods are her custom made cakes, which she considers art. She is known for her bride's dress shaped cakes, but she has also created cakes shaped like dinosaurs, violins, and airplanes.

Yefremov is from Ukraine, and relocated to the Kansas City area over two decades ago when her husband relocated for his company. She became a baker at the Leawood Hen House and then later became a bakery manager for a grocery store chain.

After ten years with the grocery, she started Irina's Gourmet Bakery in Leawood in 2005. In 2008 she relocated to Overland Park and concentrated solely on her cake business. Although customers love her customized cakes, many were eager for her to get back into retail business. The new bakery will feature both of her talents, retail and cake baking.
