Stephanie Izard’s West Loop restaurant Girl & the Goat (across the street from her other hot-spots Little Goat Diner and Little Goat Bread) is popular with chefs and locals alike. The sense of community and comfort are widely apparent, from the soundtrack of pop and rock hits playing in the background to the broad, communal bar table. Dishes like locally grown roasted beets with green beans, white anchovies, avocado crème fraîche, and breadcrumbs; escargot ravioli with bacon and tamarind-miso sauce; and duck tongue, tuna, and black bean poke with crispy wontons and piri piri are just part of the reason why Top Chef’s Season Four winner Izard won the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef accolades in 2013.

  • Sure it's tough to get in, but Stephanie Izard's hamachi crudo with crisp pork belly; pappardelle with goat, pork and veal sugo; and intricate veggie dishes make it worth the wait. [Eater 38 Member]
  • The green beans are ah-maaazing.
  • Try the chocolate bouchon from our 100 Best list: Stephanie Izard successfully incorporates foie gras as a decadent marshmallow fluff alongside a moist chocolate cake.
  • Pan fried shishito peppers are not to be missed. So money.
  • You know how there are only reservations at like 4:30 and 11? Well, that's because the experience is so freakin' awesome that there's nothing else left. Try the green beans, and never skip the bread.
  • Don't leave without eating both goat and oysters. Amazing.
  • Food was inventive and tasty but the place does tend to take itself a tad too seriously. I got bored and left before getting desert. Spoiler alert - apple pie at next door Haymarket is to-die-for.
  • Kohlrabi salad, scallops, tempura soft shell crap and shrimp cheviche are must haves!
  • Top Chef winner Stephanie Izards New American offers a bit of everything. We recommend making a reservation.
  • Everything about Girl and the Goat is amazing.
  • Pig = Heaven

  • Toss up between the green beans and the broccoli. Bolder smoke flavors for broccoli and subtle (onion) crack addicting flavors of the Green beans.
  • Roasted cauliflower is PHENOMENAL and everything else I tried (octopus, beet salad, bread, pig face, scallops)
  • The budino is
  • Wow seven dishes... Way too much for two people but so yummy!
  • Try the ham frites: Hot skinny fries tossed with rendered pork fat and seasoned with an appealingly salty dehydrated ham powder. The smoked tomato aioli pairs better than the cheddar beer sauce.
  • Taking green beans to a place they've never been before
  • Sit down, give yourself a good two hours because you're in for a ride. Get some breads and oysters to start. Then the green beans. My god the green beans are like crack! Then plow trough the menu
  • Think you'll never get a reservation at Girl and the Goat before, say, the state balances its budget? Take the after-work bar and lounge route instead for a chance to try Top Chef winner Stephanie I
