Entertaining Is the Word

With the influx of fashion sites turning into food sites and wedding sites turning into family sites, it seems as though the art of celebrating is on the rise

Jen Huang
Did you get the memo? Entertaining is all the rage.

For us, entertaining isn’t a trend — it’s here to stay. While we gladly embrace those who are taking a new liking to it, let it be known that we love to celebrate and that’s never changing.

In recent months, a new wave of entertaining has taken the Internet by storm. Wedding sites with cult followings like 100 Layer Cake and Style Me Pretty have created their own spin on the subject with 100 Layer Cakelet and Style Me Pretty Living, which spotlight parties in addition to covering weddings and home décor.
Even fashion-turned-food-obsessed site Honestly WTF jumped on board and introduced Honestly YUM late last month.

So, what gives? Is entertaining the new trend? Well, think about it. DIY is consistently on the rise and sites like Pinterest give access to catalogues of crafts to create for your home, for your parties, and for your wedding. And becoming your own personal party planner is a money-saving tactic that has been embraced by many a people in the past few years — especially during the recession — and is something to be proud of.

Kristina Meltzer, one of the three co-founders of 100 Layer Cake, took to her blog Lovely Morning to talk about the inspiration for their new site. "We want 100 Layer Cakelet to be a beautiful, inspiring, and practical place for all you mamas out there," she wrote. "We keep thinking, you obsess about your wedding for one year… but you obsess about your family for the rest of your life. Shouldn’t there be a pretty place to share all the great celebrations and projects and moments that revolve around family? Yes!" We can't help but agree.

Abby Larson, Style Me Pretty’s creator, talked about SMP Living’s vision as well. "From fabulous parties and celebrations, to DIY projects, scrumptious recipes and travel musings, all things baby and inspiring home tours; we’ve got a little something for everyone’s taste… all things after the ring (or before, really)," she said.

And Honestly YUM’s sights are set on the bright and colorful. Erica Chan Coffman said, "Honestly Yum is a destination for all things related to food, cocktails, and entertaining! Expect a plethora of recipes for seasonal dishes and delightful libations, festive DIYs, and hosting tips that are sure to impress your guests." We can't wait to see what they have in store!

As for us, we’re consistently looking to what's new and next — and we’re always focused on entertaining. We’re planning weddings, decorating our homes, hosting Saturday brunch, and unveiling some stunning events planned by our amazing panel of experts. In addition, we’re DIYing anything we can get our hands and sharing the best products you need when it comes to party hosting.

Have a gorgeous party you want to share? Send it over to entertain-editor@thedailymeal.com, we’d love to hear from you.
