El Matador Beer Cocktail

When we think of cocktails we often picture the bartender's shake — which is why beer cocktails can seem so incongruous. But in actuality, topping your cocktails off with a bit of beer post-shake can often add a refreshing complexity to otherwise standard fare.

We went to Ginny's Supper Club underneath Red Rooster Harlem in order to learn the steps to one of their favorite beer cocktails, El Matador. It's a fruity and spicy drink that benefits from the light, earthy flavor of the pilsner they use. For the full recipe, watch the video above or follow the steps below:

Ingredients:
2 strawberries
4 basil leaves
2 ounces tequila (preferably Herredura Blanco)
1 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
.5 ounce agave nectar
Splash of Radeberger Pilsner

Rim a glass with a 1-1-1 ratio of chile pepper, ground pepper, and salt. Muddle the strawberries and basil leaves together. Add the lime juice, tequila, and agave. Shake with ice and then double-strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Top the drink with Radeberger pilsner. Add a strawberry and some basil leaves to garnish.
