Recess Eatery's 2nd Los Angeles Location Opens In Highland Park

Recess Eatery has opened a second location in Highland Park, located on the trendy York Boulevard. The playful 5,000-square-foot restaurant is designed by Spacecraft Design Group. The restaurant's architectural design is library-inspired and uses two of the main walls as shelving units for food items. Woodwork dominates the large airy space and the interior houses deep brown wood furniture and green leather booths. The peaceful outdoor patio is made complete with two large olive trees, a cozy brick fireplace, plants, and candles.

The menu artfully keeps in-line with the restaurant design's library/schoolyard theme by replacing traditional appetizer, main, side and dessert courses with "student council," "homeroom," "teacher's lounge," and "extra credit" headings. Appetizers include a meatball and falafel trio, cheese board, and calamari and shrimp with cocktail sauce. Main courses include country fried chicken, avocado, burrata and tomato crostini, seared ahi salad, filet mignon, breaded halibut, and faro tabbouleh.

Desserts include crème brûlée, flourless chocolate cake, carrot pineapple cake, bread pudding, panna cotta with blackberry sorbet, and mandarin orange chocolate ice cream.

Brunch is available on weekends and includes a lebnani scramble with soujouk, eggs, tomato, and feta; an egg white and spinach omelette; and options of spinach and mushroom, Canadian bacon, or filet mignon eggs benedict.
