Americans have embraced the taco and other classic Mexican dishes, and when they need just the right kitchen gear to make tortillas or cook a pozole at home, they find the quality cookware (that's also a great price) they need at Macy's.

Wouldn't it be a blast if you could learn how to make a few recipes from a chef that has made cooking, teaching, and serving authentic Mexican cuisine his life's work? Now you can, thanks to the Macy's Culinary Council, Macy's team of distinguished chefs who serve to inspire the way you shop, cook and eat at home.  On March 19 the Macy's Woodlands store in Houston, Texas is hosting renowned Mexican cuisine expert chef Rick Bayless.

The Macy's Culinary Council: An organization that supports American cooks

Chef Rick Bayless and other luminary members of the Macy's Culinary Council like Cat Cora, Nancy Silverton, Marcus Samuelsson and Wolfgang Puck, are dedicated to making cooking at home fun and easy. Helpful tips, advice, and suggestions provided by each chef show home cooks how to add a bit of pizzazz to their menu and learn how to make gourmet meals a success.

Spring 2016 Macy's Culinary Council Cooking Demonstration in Woodlands on March 19

On March 19, people in the Woodlands area of Texas will be able to see a demonstration that is just as exciting as chef Rick Bayless' television program Mexico—One Plate at a Time. As a culinary ambassador for the wonderful food of Mexico, Rick Bayless has spent the last 20 years extolling the virtues of authentic regional food from Mexico and he believes "that the flavors of Mexican food go far beyond what we're used to in the States. I mean, people can tell you about the differences in regional Italian or French or Chinese cooking, but that's just not the case when it comes to Mexico. I've been working to change that."

What's on the Menu

What makes Rick Bayless so popular, on TV and in books, is his engaging personality, his knowledge of Mexican cuisine, and his deliciously easy recipes. All of the recipes being demonstrated on March 19 come directly from his cookbook, More Mexican Everyday and include jicama beet and grapefruit salad, spring green licuado, and horchata French toast, which is served five days a week in Rick's Xoco restaurant in Chicago.

Cook Like a Chef with Easy Recipes

Rick chose these dishes because "They are all accessible, easy, and really great for entertaining." As he says, "Think of the licuado as a delicious Mexican answer to trendy green juices here in the States; they're a big part of Mexican breakfasts. The salad is a lovely and easy complement to any brunch, and the horchata French toast is a luxurious addition to the brunch table (and it can mostly be made ahead!)"

A Distinct Culinary Point of View

These are the types of dishes Rick makes after stopping at the local farmers' market on Sunday mornings and they reflect his love of spicy, savory, earthy, enticing flavors that are the core of Mexican cuisine, his culinary point of view, and the incredible diversity of Mexican cuisine. For those lucky enough to snag a spot at the demonstration, tasting samples are also part of the program which will make for a fun and tasty Macy's visit. However, Rick Bayless' demonstrations are always hugely popular so be sure to RSVP immediately since seating for the Macy's cooking demonstrations is limited and on a first come first served basis.
