Food Trend Spotted: Plant-Based Eating Easier Than Ever!

What's trending in healthy food? You can ask about 10,000 food and nutrition professionals, mostly registered dietitian nutritionists, who attended the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics' Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo™ (FNCE) 2015 in Nashville, Tennessee. Or you can ask me! I was one of those attendees.

The expo showcases the latest food and nutrition products and services. It's often where nutritious food trends are spotted. One of the overriding food trend's spotted at this year's expo ... foods to make plant-based eating easier than ever!

Here are four tasty new picks to be on the lookout for:

1. Plant Powered Protein™ Salad Kits by Eat Smart: These nutrient-rich salad kits include vegetable-based salad, seeds, and dressing all in one. They're a good source of protein and fiber. Plus, they're preservative-free and gluten-free. http://www.eatsmart.net

2. Better Bean: Beyond canned beans, these containers of prepared beans are super tasty and packed with nutrition. They come in seven flavorful varieties that can be eaten as is or used in recipes. As a bonus, they're non-GMO, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, and vegan—so they'll fit into just about everyone's meal plan. http://betterbeanco.com/

3. Kashi Overnight Muesli: These creamy, satisfying, superfood cereals are made with whole grains, seeds, and a little dried cane syrup for a hint of sweetness. All you do is soak the muesli in plant-based "milk" in the evening, then savor in the morning. The cereal is USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified, too. https://www.kashi.com/our-foods/cold-cereal

4. Dole Pineapple Dippers:  These individually-portioned, frozen, dark chocolate-covered pineapple tidbits offer a fun and dessert-like way to eat fruit—for just 80 calories a pouch. It's a snack-time answer to indulgence with health benefits. And they're non-GMO. https://www.dole.com/Products/Dippers/Pineapple-Dippers
