An offshoot of chef Robert Wiedmaier’s popular Alexandria, Va. spot Brabo, the Brabo Tasting Room is a casual and lively restaurant located right in the heard of Old Town. Located inside a 150-year-old building adjacent to the Lorien Hotel & Spa, the intimate no-reservations restaurant is the perfect platform for Wiedmaier and chef de cuisine Chris Watson to display their ample talent and flair for the creative.

The menu of “sociable café fare” takes its inspiration from traditional Belgian cuisine as well as the bounty of the mid-Atlantic. The breakfast menu includes brioche French toast; Gruyère potato cakes topped with pork belly, poached eggs, and sabayon; a traditional Belgian waffle; and house-cured salmon. For dinner, there’s a nice selection of wood-fired tarts (think shredded roast chicken with spring onion and provolone), four varieties of mussels (including one with bacon and gorgonzola), a charcuterie platter, sandwiches (the Cuban, BBQ braised beef, and roast beef au jus are popular), and salads.
