Dahl is a staple in India, usually eaten with every meal. My family always eats Dahl when we make Indian food. This is a new recipe for Dahl made and demonstrated by Cinda Sanders on a cooking show titled "Indian Cuisine."
Hearty and full of flavor, this soup is good for you. This is a specialty of Yanuca Island, Fiji. From a February 1984 issue of Bon Appetit in the R.S.V.P. Letters to the Editor section. The recipe was requested from The Fijian Resort Hotel.
This recipe came from Simon Rimmer or Greens vegetarian restaurant in Manchester. This is the original recipe but as I am trying to watch my weight I use 4 sprays of cooking oil rather than 2 tablespoons and leave out the fried plantain which brings it to about 230 calories per serving and 1.2g fat. Its wonderfully warm and comforting and just needs to be served with some chapattis or naan bread.
